Hellebores — Dreamy Winter Blooms
Rabbits, possums and wallabies love nibbling on rosebuds, but when it comes to the Christmas rose, they know to leave them well alone. Also known as hellebores, Christmas roses are actually part of the buttercup family and are known to be toxic to humans, cats, dogs, and horses when ingested. Some people may be affected by simply touching the plant, so gardeners with sensitive skin should take care to wear protective gear when handling them.
Hellebores provide the shady winter garden with a dreamy pop of colour in delicate hues from salmon pink to pure black. They are frost resistant, wildlife resistant, hardy and almost anything proof (except perhaps for a heavy infestation of aphids).
