Did you know: Garden Lime vs Dolomite Lime

Your curious questions answered

What’s the difference between garden lime and dolomite lime?

Garden lime

Garden lime is crushed limestone. It contains calcium carbonate and is used to sweeten acidic soil.

Dolomite lime

Dolomite lime is crushed dolomite limestone. It contains calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. In addition to sweetening acidic soil, dolomite lime alleviates magnesium deficiency, which is more common in cool and wet conditions. However, using too much magnesium can also compact soils.

Both garden lime and dolomite lime can assist with encouraging microbial activity in the soil.
